Internet Gambling Ban Has Passed

The language is pretty harsh. I just watched it get signed by the Senators. Once the President signs it, it will be law. I'm not going to make any rash decisions, but this obviously isn't good. I'll keep you posted.

Ask Me Anything About Thailand

This thread I started on 2+2 has turned into quite a piece of art. Definately worth a read. Got tons of great questions asked of me about Thailand and had several people who live there, lived there or have spent a lot of time there to weigh in. In the end it looks like half of the board is ready to pack their bags for Southeast Asia. Please post your questions there if you have any.

The Month is Shaping Up Nicely

Thanks to the $500+30's. I've recovered the $7,000 I was down and am now over $9,000 in the black. Don't think I'll hit my $50k goal but it looks like $25k or so might be doable, we'll see.

Business is going amazingly well. I've gotten super lucky and found some awesome people to help me out. My assistant Shayne is really the glue that is holding everything together. Also hired a second assistant and have a couple of consultants helping with various tasks. Now all I need are some good sales people! Argghhhh!! The Las Vegas job market for sales rep's is just horrible, buncha flaky losers. I'm sure that will work itself out though.

Interesting $500+30 Hand

Posted here on 2+2

Got some flack in that thread from some low stakes grinders (typical of the STT forum) but I think I still like the play. Let me know what you think.

Big News From Thailand

Instead of a 600 baht hotel room costing me $15US, it is going to cost me $13 US. Thanks CNN!

In other words, all of the garbage you are seeing today is just that, garbage. American media toying with international politics and markets for whatever reason. I've spoken to several people in Thailand and aside from some light peacekeeping things, there is nothing going on at all.

My friends father is very well connected in Thailand (royal family etc) and he said this type of thing happens constantly. He said that if it weren't for CNN he wouldn't even have heard about this.

I'll keep you posted if I hear anything else, but I'm none too worried and look forward to going to Thailand Movie Links Directory November 1st!

Happy Birthday Wild Bill

After over a month of eighty our weeks in Vegas I took a little break and headed to LA for the weekend. My birthday was Sunday and all of my good friends from UCSB cleared their schedules for Saturday night so we could go out. For anybody in their mid-twenties, you know just how rare that is, so I had to go. Those guys are like my family really. Little Guy, Brando, Bizzle, Alo and Wildo...I love you guys.

We all hung out at Will's house in North Hollywood and took shots, planned out our coming trip to Thailand (we're headed out November 1st) and caught up. Then headed out to the Sunset Strip for some more drinking. At 2am we were just getting started and the place was closed so the little guy tells us about some club in Hollywood open until 9am called the Spider Room. One of the best clubs I have ever been in. It's 100% my style. Looked like a renovated movie theater. Packed with people, 80%+ of them Asian, great house music, good vibe. Just a dope club all around.

We lasted till about 5am then took off for some drunken noisy Denny's. Good times.

Yesterday played in the $540 NL Shootout at Commerce and thought I was finally going to get past my first table but got heads up and ran absolutely card dead and lost to a pretty tough opponent. Came back and hung out with Will and some new roomates of his, and headed out for some more rowdiness. Though I've been living in Vegas for awhile, this sort of stuff just hasn't been a part of what I do. Just changes when you live there I guess.

Spent awhile trying to teach Will how to play cash games profitably last night. Maybe I'll take him on as my first student in ages. I really think the hardest part for somebody like him in learning from somebody else is unlearning all of the things he thinks he 'knows' after years of playing poker. Most people who've been playing poker for a few years are pretty set in their ways. We'll see though...I'd take great pride in teaching somebody how to make $200 an hour in only a few hours of my own time.

As for +/- of poker, I've kept at the SNG's a bit and am now up just over $1,000 for September. I had dropped into the negative so this is positive news. Though doesn't look like I'll be hitting my $50k goal unless I catch some serious heat soon.

Trying to get out of Vegas as soon as humanly possible. Asian Poker Tour in Singapore in late October then the trip to Thailand with my boys from 11/1-11/20.

Challenge going poorly. I lost another $7k the other night, five of that on one hand at 25/50. Not bad play, just bad cards. But being down is no fun.

Putting lots of effort into my business's this week with some amazing results. Have made a partnership with a major poker site I think will be very good for I'll announce it soon.

Also Discount Connection has absolutely been blowing up. I hired a great assistant and she's basically taken over our advertising department with some amazing results thus far. Its so nice to be able to run this company the right way, last time I did it I was practically broke the whole time. Learned a lot about saving money though.

I think I might chill on the cash games for a bit, not sure...I've played a bunch of SNG's the last couple nights and have done pretty well...up about $6,000 so far. Obviously just variance but it's nice playing poker where I can get all my money in on the flop with top pair and not be worried that I'm up against and set...just shove it in there.

Also found a great poker tax guy, at long last. Would be glad to give a referral for any of you other big players who don't have all of that in order yet.

Check back for updates on the freeroll and for announcements about the partnership.

Was up as much as five thousand so in all it was a fifteen thousand dollar swing. I was multitabling $10/20 NL at the time so it really isn't that much in terms of buy-ins, at least not abnormal. Unfortunately the last $6,000 came as I was telling myself I should not be playing because I'd taken so many beats/was not thinking 100% clearly. I wouldn't really call it full on tilt but it was pretty close. Bad bill, very bad.

That was Thursday night, took Friday off. Probably wont play today either.

Other things are going very well right now however. I'm very close to finalizing a partnership with a major poker site for I've been trying very hard to build awareness of and traffic to the site. This should be a major step in the right direction for that goal. As soon as the deal is finalized I'll post the full details here. If anybody has any experience with Press Releases or with SEO please get in touch with me, I could use some help in those area's.

Also the business is pretty much in auto-pilot here and I'm getting ready to get back to Thailand. I'll hopefully be able to get back in the next week or two, though I certainly won't leave before it's a good idea for my business. Our phone system and brochures need to be finished then I can get on a plane!

I've been getting a lot of emails and requests regarding rakeback. If you have questions about Party shoot me an email, they don't allow rakeback but I can give you any information you need. For other sites I highly reccomend checking out don't profit from your participation in any of the programs there, its an unbiased directory.

Crazy Day

Man the swings at bigger stakes are intense. I decided to move up today after starting the morning off very good at 5/10. I three and four tabled 10-20 most of the day. Up seven grand, then down five, then up three, then back up to seven, all within a couple of hours. Brutal.

Ate dinner, watched a movie, worked on setting up a date later in the week, then played some more. The $25/50 was shorthanded and had a couple of fish, so I sat. Played a couple orbits and then this hand came up:

I'm in the BB with 4h, 4s, folds to SB. He makes it $200, I call.

Flop Kd, Qh 4c. SB checks, I check. Turn 2d. SB checks, I bet about half pot, SB raises to $1000. I stop and wonder if I'm about to lose five grand on one hand set over set. I decide that it doesn't matter, no poker player in their right mind would fold this hand, so I call.

River brings the 9c, letting open ended get there, and an outside chance of 99 beating me. He bets hard, I push for a pretty big raise, he calls me instantly with AK.

Ship the five grand.

+$12,000 day.

Down close to six grand today.

If you don't count my lucksack badbeat jackpot, I'm now down close to two grand in about 5,000 hands (I was actually up $17k last night, not 16, I forgot to add the change).

I asked a few players whom I respect if dropping $6k in 1700 hands is a normal swing for this game, unfortunately it is. Better luck tomorrow I guess.

I'm Gonna Make $50,000 in September

I'm sick of watching people I know get rich while I continue to be on my break. Getting the company off the ground is going a bit slower than I had hoped so time to bring in some income, and get back in the game.

I'm going to be starting at 5/10 NL. 4 tabling for the first few thousands hands. If its going well, I'll add tables, maybe move up or down depending on results and how I'm playing/feeling. At current winrates and assuming I can bring my long sleeping A game back to the table, my $50k goal should be easily attainable at anywhere from 2/4 up to 10/20.

As a side note, in the thirty-odd minutes it took me to write this while playing, I've already made $3,000 of my goal. $47k more to go.

I'll keep you posted.
